Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego Endorses Andrei Cherny for Congress

Mayor Gallego: “Andrei is the strongest Democrat to defeat David Schweikert and the leader our community needs to deliver for us in Washington.”

PHOENIX – Today, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego announced her endorsement of Andrei Cherny for Congress in Arizona’s First Congressional District. The endorsement from the wildly-popular Gallego two weeks before voting begins builds on the strong momentum Cherny has earned throughout this race. He is the only challenger in America to outraise the incumbent in every quarter of the campaign and set an off-year record for most money raised by any candidate for Congress in Arizona history. He has previously announced the support of Paradise Valley Mayor Jerry Bien-Wilner, Fountain Hills Mayor Ginny Dickey, State Senate Democratic Leader Mitzi Epstein, Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo, and former officials including Bill Clinton, Terry Goddard, Harry Mitchell, Lauren Kuby, and Kelli Butler.

“I’ve watched the race for Congress against David Schweikert carefully and today I want to tell you why I’ll be voting for Andrei Cherny – and why I hope you will too,” Gallego said in a video announcing her decision. “This is one of the most important races in the country – and Andrei has the values, the experience, and the track record we can trust to protect abortion rights, fight the climate crisis, and build an economy that works for everyone.”

“As a mother, I trust Andrei to fight for our kids. And as a mayor, I trust Andrei to get results for all of us. Andrei is the candidate we need to defeat David Schweikert and deliver for Arizona. I hope you’ll join me in supporting Andrei Cherny for Congress.”

“Kate Gallego has combined a big vision and real results in her time as mayor of Phoenix and so I am honored to have earned her endorsement for my campaign for Congress,” Cherny said. “I look forward to the opportunity to partner with her on creating high-paying jobs, building new housing, and making Arizona ‘the Solar State.”

Andrei Cherny is a former Chair of the Arizona Democratic Party, aide to Barack Obama and to Bill Clinton in the White House, U.S. Navy reserve Intelligence Officer, Arizona Assistant Attorney General, and founder of a business that helps fight climate change. Andrei is endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters, VoteVets, BRADY PAC to End Gun Violence, the American Federation of County and Municipal Employees, and dozens of local and national leaders. Andrei and his wife Stephanie have lived, and raised their two kids, in Phoenix for the past two decades. To learn more, visit
