All in for Wall Street: Schweikert Votes to Gut Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

PHOENIX –  This Wednesday, David Schweikert voted for an amendment to defund the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The CFPB protects Americans from being preyed on by Wall Street and Big Banks and has returned $17 billion to American consumers. The amendment was defeated by bipartisan opposition with 78 Republicans voting against this sop to special interests.

As the co-founder and president of Democracy journal, Andrei Cherny joined with Elizabeth Warren in 2006 to launch the fight for what became the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau – protecting millions of Americans from financial fraudsters and Wall Street misdeeds.

“Schweikert’s extreme votes in Congress are a threat to Arizona and puts our seniors at risk,” said Cherny. “I partnered with then-law professor Elizabeth Warren from day one of the work to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau because I knew we needed to protect consumers from financial abuse and corruption. I am running for Congress because that is still true today.”Andrei Cherny is a former U.S. Navy reserve officer, Arizona Assistant Attorney General, and CEO of a consumer-friendly and climate change-fighting financial institution. Andrei and his wife Stephanie are raising their two kids in Phoenix, where they have lived for the past two decades. To learn more, visit www.AndreiForArizona.com.
